This is a Seva Song. All the proceeds from this song will be donated at the end of each year to various projects around the globe that are dedicated to cleaning up the trash around our beloved Mama Gaia.

I first heard this chant on Jai Uttal and Ben Leinbach's "Loveland" album. "Prayer to the Buddha Maitreya" sung by Jai's lovely wife, Nubia Teixeira. Always a powerful chant for me, Maitreya became one of the first songs I played in my own sadhana practice. Thank you Nubia, for your blessings in my recording this song.

The proceeds from 2016 will be donated to CleanHimalaya.org cleaning up the trash in and around Rishikesh, India. In the spring of 2015, I had the honor of participating in a Clean Himalaya project with Prem Baba's sangha in Laxman Jhula. Clean Himalaya is working with the schools teaching the children about trash and recycling. They are also working with getting recycling recepticals throughout the town. Several hundred of us volunteered and separated into groups to tackle the various trash heaps that had accumulated over the years.

The plastics that are plaguing the landscapes in India are rampant. Piles of trash - sometimes 10 -20 feet deep! - line the walls and shorelines. For a country that used to have only paper and biodegradable trash, modern wrappers made of plastic and foil have become the enemy. No longer can the people throw their trash over a wall and expect time to works it magic decomposing everything. With modern wrappers, the trash piles up and up and up.

This problem is choking our beloved Pachamama. I am committed to helping her to breath again. And so I offer this song to her, our mother earth.

I am on the lookout for innovative organizations who are cleaning up the trash - in our oceans, on our shores - you name it! If you know of a fantastic organization doing this work, I would love to hear from you!
